Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Create Your Own Background!

wed-newchallenge-header

Hi all and welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge

Thank you for joining us for the  STAMPtember® Stamp-It Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.

This week the challenge is ,,,,,,,,

MAKE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND

there are so many ways to make your own backgrounds, using stencils, splattering, gelli plate printing etc

We are showcasing GELATOS made by FABER-CASTELL this week. You don’t have to use them to join in but if you have some we would love to see them used.

As always Simon Says Stamp will be giving away $50 voucher to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store

I am really pleased with how my background turned out for this card – the colours came out just how I wanted them!  I was going for a bokeh effect and used the Hero Arts Bubble Confetti stencil to create it with the Gelatos (Tropical set).  I first scribbled the colours onto my craft sheet and spritzed with water to dissolve the pigment.  I then taped my stencil down over some Tim Holtz Distress Watercolour card and using the bristle brush that came with the Gelatos started dabbing the colour over the stencil one at a time, moving the stencil around to get random spacing of one colour before moving onto the next.  I could’ve used sponge daubers but I’ve ran out and am waiting for some new ones to arrive!!

gelatosI just continued to keep adding spots of colour over the panel until I was happy with the coverage and then took a white pigment ink (Avery Elle) and added random spots of white.  I think it’s this step that really helps to add to the bokeh effect.  I set the background panel to the side to dry and die cut the Simon Says Stamp ice-cream cone parade from white card and pastel card shades.  I used a glue pen to cover the coloured centre pieces before sprinkling them with fine clear glitter.  I assembled them back together and popped them up on foam tape and set aside.  Before adding the sentiment (from Clearly Besotted’s Many Messages) which I stamped in Versamark and embossed in Ranger gold powder, I added a few splats of Heidi Swapp Gold lame spray and a few Doodlebug gold sprinkles.  Finally I adhered the ice cream die cut and mounted the panel to an A2 white card base.

I can’t wait to see all your creative backgrounds this week – thanks for stopping by!

Avery Elle – More Stories

I’m so excited today to be sharing another card using the new Fall Release from Avery Elle. Have you see it yet?  So many adorable stamps and dies!  And you may have noticed something else too!  Another fantasic paper pad – this one was designed by Heather Campbell and is called the Everyday collection.  I love it (I snuck a wee peek at it a few weeks ago on THIS card!!)  The gorgeous little fox is from More Stories – a companion set to Heather’s Storybook set.  I die cut the frame using another new die collection called Finished Frames using an amazing product I picked up at Make The Day Special – a set of adhesive-backed wood veneer papers!  Seriously – I love these and I’ll be back in a few days with another card AND the chance to try them out for yourselves!!  More on that soon!!

Avery Elle – Fall Release Blog Hop

AEBlogHopBadge

Hello again!  Wow – what a busy week I’m having here on my wee blog.  I’m back today with another exciting post as part of the Avery Elle Fall Release Blog Hop!!  This new release from Avery Elle is HUGE and it’s AWESOME!  There is at least one stamp set or die to suit just about EVERYONE!  Not to mention 6 stunning new ink colours and a fantastic 6×6 paper pad which I just love.

My card today features an amazing set call Fabulous Florals designed by my lovely and talented friend Heather Campbell.  She has 3 stamp sets and co-ordinating dies in this release and you’re going to love every one.

Fabulous FloralsI first masked of a strip across my card panel with Post- It tape and then stamped one of the open leaves in Hero Arts Field Greens shadow ink randomly above and below the masked section.  I created a couple of masks of the leaves and then stamped another of the open leaves in Orange Soda and Butter bar Shadow inks to fill up the areas above and blow the tape.  I then coloured the leaves using various Copics to add shadows and definition to the leaves.  I outlined the leaf clusters with a pale gray Copic (not sure if I like that bit though!!).

I removed the Post-It tape from across the panel and the added some spatters of gold using Heidi Swapp Shimmer Spray.  Once that had dried I then heat embossed the Thank You sentiment in gold and finished with some jute twine tied around the panel.  Finally I mounted the panel on a kraft A2 card base.

So now you off you pop to Heather’s blog and check out her STUNNING creation.  The full running order of the blog hop is below – in case you get lost!!!
