Avery Elle … Take A Peek

Hi  here today with a card and short video showing how I used the Take A Peek stamp set and Elle-ments.  I went for a “coffee and cream” colour palette as inside my little envelope on the card I’ve hidden a Starbucks card.

Here’s a wee video showing how it all came together.

Avery Elle Winter Release 2017 Blog Hop

It’s release day over at Avery Elle so that means a designer blog hop (starting at the Avery Elle Blog) to showcase all the fabulous new products available right now over in the Avery Elle store!

This release is full of fun stamps and awesome die collections so there’s sure to be something for everyone!  Today I’m, featuring a sweet little set I designed called Windmill.  I had so much fun coming up with this set and I hope you like it as much as I do!!!

I decided a long time ago that this would be a perfect set to use with a paper-piecing technique.  I used my favourite paper pad of all time, the Everyday Collection and created a kind of patchwork effect using all the little scraps I’ve been holding onto forever!!  I stamped out the images I wanted to include onto different patterns and then die cut them using the co-ordinating dies.  A GREAT die collection that partners with this stamp set perfectly is the Picket Fence die set.  I used the grassy border, picket fence and cloud dies to create my little countryside scene.  The path is from the Cityscape collection from the last release.

The sails of the windmill actually turn thanks to a wee brad (crikey – haven’t used one of those in a while!!).

Avery Elle … Warm Wishes

Hey there Avery Elle fans.  I’m over on the Avery Elle Blog today sharing a card using this week’s featured stamp set from the latest release.  All this week the design team will be sharing what we’ve created using the Warm Wishes stamp set and dies along with many other fabulous products from the Avery Elle arsenal!

The Warm Wishes stamp set contains 2 jar images which would make great gift tags but for my creation I went with a card.  I decided the North Pole image from Frosty Friends would fit perfectly inside the larger jar so with the addition of the snowbank and little tree my winter scene came together in no time.

I used to really struggle with trying to colour something that’s white or clear (snow, glass, polar bears, etc).  I would overcomplicate things trying to shade with different colours and depths but then I decided to chill out (pardon the pun) and discovered that it’s actually really easy to get the feeling of snow or ice very simply.  For the glass jar and snow in my card I chose a pale, aqua Copic marker (in this case BG11) and just added highlights here and there around the edges of the images.  This gives the hint of light that is reflected from something bright white like ice.  To make it even frostier I used a Quickie glue pen on the snowy parts and sprinkled over them with some very fine crystal glitter.  In this case the background patterned paper panel (from the Sorbet Collection paper pad) acts brilliantly to draw the eye in to the focal image and add even further to the winter colour scheme.
