This card was inspired by another I made at Christmas (you can find the details HERE).  I was asked to make a Valentines card for a friend of mine with a duck-egg blue and red combo (one of my favourites!) and so thought I’d put my Minc to good use and create this.  The sheet music is from an image I found on the internet which I printed onto vellum on my laser printer.  I then added the mint-coloured foil with the Minc and die cut the panel using the Wonky Stitches die from Avery Elle.    The card base is from the Caribbean Collection of notecards (Avery Elle also) and I created a watercolour piece to go under the vellum just to give a subtle background texture.

I printed off a sheet of solid black toner and then ran it through the minc with more of the mint foil and also some red.  I then die cut my pieces and assembled them on the front of the card.

Avery Elle … Hogs and Kisses

I have a card today using the fabulous Hogs and Kisses stamp set from Avery Elle – isn’t it amazing?  Love the little faces on the Valentine’s critters – especially the piggy!!  I used the pierced rectangles and some new dies coming at the end of February – pierced clouds!!  Thought I’d go for a more non-traditional approach to my Valentine’s card for hubby this year – no pinks or reds this time!! I coloured the images with Copics and popped the hearts up for a bit more dimension.

Simon Says … One Layer Cards

wed-newchallenge-header

Hello, friends! Welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge blog!

Thank you for joining us for the Have A Heart Challenge. We hope you will join in with our new theme!

We will be back soon with the name of the lucky winner of the $50 Voucher!

This week the challenge is…

One Layer!

For this challenge you may add die cut pieces and embellishments but the front of the card should look like one layer. We know this one can be tricky for some folks, but we also know you guys ROCK OUR SOCKS every week, so we can’t WAIT to see what you do with the One Layer challenge! Your designs inspire us! Show us what you can do!

We are showcasing PAPER SMOOCHES PRODUCTS this week. You don’t have to use them to join in with the challenge, but if you have them we would love to see them used! Paper Smooches offers a wide variety of stamps including cuteness, pretty designs, every day basics, and amazing sentiments! Be sure to check out their latest to see what you may need to add to your collection!

As always Simon Says Stamp will be giving away $50 voucher to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store! I think that would be pretty fun to spend, how about you? *wink*

So it’s fair to say, the term “one layer” seems to be open to interpretation as we have discovered this week in the Simon Wednesday Challenge team talks!!!  Whatever your idea, we don’t want to see more than one layer (that’s my take anyway!!)!  We’re featuring Paper Smooches this week and I just HAD to break out my latest PS purchase – the Sushi die.  I have the stamp set that the sushi image comes from (Calorie Free) and use that image LOADS.  When I saw the die (it’s not a co-ordinating die by the way) I had to have it!

To add detail without the layers I added the pierced circles (Avery Elle) to my base card.  I then cut a strip of green card and die cut both edges with one of the MFT grassy border dies.  The Sushi was die cut from various colours and was re-assembled and then inlaid to the card front.  This gives the impression of layers without the “bulk”!  I finished off with a simple sentiment from Clearly Besotted’s A Little Sentimental stamp set.
