Watercolouring with Zig Clean Colour Markers and the Mondo Holly stamp set from Ellen Hutson

Hey there, I’ve managed to grab some time to crack on with a few more Christmas cards and my most recent purchase is the stunning Mondo Holly set from the Essentials By Ellen range from Ellen Hutson.  I just LOVE Julie Ebersole‘s designs and have built up a few of her sets in my collection now.  I couldn’t wait to get my inky paws on this one.  I even managed to create a video to go along with it!  I ended up just adding some festive music as I have a stinking cold right now and my voice would just be TOO ANNOYING!!

I started with a stone coloured card base and stamped the Wood Plank background stamp from MFT (not Woodgrain as I called it in the video – oops) using Desert Sand ink from Memento.  I also stamped the Holly image in the same ink onto some Arches water colour card so I could go for a kind of no-line water colour effect.  I used Zig Clean Colour markers and a water brush to add the colour and when it was die cut I used a glue pen to add highlights of frost with Ranger Rock Candy Distress glitter.

I used the Desert Sand ink again with a blending tool around the edge of the image to mute down the brightness of the white water colour paper I used and I think this gives a nice vintage touch to the over all style of the design.  I added a die cut circle, also with a blended edge under the holly to help it pop off the wood grain background a little.

To finish I stamped the sentiment using Avery Elle Truffle dye ink and added some rustic twine around the top for that cozy, festive touch!

Thanks so much for stopping by x

Avery Elle … Embellished Heart Die

Hey there! This week on the Aver Elle blog we’re featuring the gorgeous   Embellished Heart Die.  I love when I can get more bang for my buck so this die is a great investment as it can give you a multitude of looks.  The die cuts an embellished aperture from your material leaving the “positive” heart die cut.  Simple to create to totally different cards with no waste!

I started by die cutting a piece of self adhesive wood veneer paper.  (you can pick something similar up at Ellen Hutson HERE).  This gave me the negative part with the aperture and detailed border and also a heart from the centre.  I used similar supplies for both cards so whipping them up didn’t take very long at all.

For the first card I started with an A2 card base and carefully centred the die cut wood veneer to the front.  From the card I created last week using the Three Hearts Die (HERE) I had the white hearts left over so used a couple of them on these cards (tip – always keep your die cuts – you never know when they’ll come in handy).  I lightly brushed some Orchid pigment ink around the smaller heart to let it pop off the card a little  – it’s subtle but it adds a lot of texture.  To bring the elements together I bunched some gold thread and held it down with some adhesive and popped the inked heart die cut onto it with foam tape.  I created the sentiment using the new Simple Sentiments stamp set, heat embossed with white powder and then die cut using one of the co-ordinating dies.  I added a few tiny black gems to tie the black sentiment in.

For the second card I used the Embellished Heart die again and die cut it from a white panel off-centre.  I popped this onto a white A2 card using foam tape and then adhered the wood veneer heart into the space and trimmed off the overhanging edge.  I grabbed another of my leftover hearts from my last card, the same gold thread and another white embossed sentiment and finished off this time with some gold Stickles around the edge of the heart to accent the thread.
