Watercolouring with Zig Clean Colour Markers and the Mondo Holly stamp set from Ellen Hutson

Hey there, I’ve managed to grab some time to crack on with a few more Christmas cards and my most recent purchase is the stunning Mondo Holly set from the Essentials By Ellen range from Ellen Hutson.  I just LOVE Julie Ebersole‘s designs and have built up a few of her sets in my collection now.  I couldn’t wait to get my inky paws on this one.  I even managed to create a video to go along with it!  I ended up just adding some festive music as I have a stinking cold right now and my voice would just be TOO ANNOYING!!

I started with a stone coloured card base and stamped the Wood Plank background stamp from MFT (not Woodgrain as I called it in the video – oops) using Desert Sand ink from Memento.  I also stamped the Holly image in the same ink onto some Arches water colour card so I could go for a kind of no-line water colour effect.  I used Zig Clean Colour markers and a water brush to add the colour and when it was die cut I used a glue pen to add highlights of frost with Ranger Rock Candy Distress glitter.

I used the Desert Sand ink again with a blending tool around the edge of the image to mute down the brightness of the white water colour paper I used and I think this gives a nice vintage touch to the over all style of the design.  I added a die cut circle, also with a blended edge under the holly to help it pop off the wood grain background a little.

To finish I stamped the sentiment using Avery Elle Truffle dye ink and added some rustic twine around the top for that cozy, festive touch!

Get Cracking On Christmas November 2018

Yes, it’s the 3rd Thursday of the month which means it’s time to Get Cracking On Christmas #getcrackingonchristmas.  You can read all about the inspiration behind this challenge HERE but it’s really just a fun idea designed to get us making our holiday cards in plenty of time so we’re not rushing at the last minute.  Make sure to pop over and visit my fellow crafters joining in Jenn Shurkus, Cheiron Brandon and Chari Moss

This month I have been playing with the new release from Avery Elle and thought these wee cacti from the Stuck on You set would look very smart dressed up for the holiday season.  I knew straight away that the Santa hat from the Dear Santa stamp set would fit these wee guys perfectly.  I stamped and die cut some sprigs of holly from the same set too and grabbed a sentiment from the Quirky Christmas stamp set from last month’s Avery Elle release.  I kept it simple with a strip of striped paper from MFT and a thin strip of red glitter Washi tape.  Some glitter glue dotted here and there and the card is done!

Whilst I had my Dear Santa set out I was inspired to create another card.  I love the Strands die from Ellen Hutson so started with this and created a panel for the front of the card and adhered some glitter paper behind it  for some mega bling.  I stamped the Plaid background from Concord & 9th onto a white card base using Strawberry pigment ink from Avery Elle.  I stamped, coloured and die cut the cat from the Dear Santa set and added her to the card from and finished it off with a sentiment from the Vintage Ornaments set.

MFT Sketch Challenge #369

Hey!  It’s a LOOONNNG time since I participated in a challenge so when I was hanging out with my buddy Karolyn in her gorgeous craft room last week I decided I’d take advantage of the chance to rummage through her vast MFT Stamps inventory!!  It’s like an Aladin’s cave for any MFT fan such as myself!  Anyhoo, I thought I’d play along with the current sketch challenge and get hubby’s Valentine’s card out of the way while I was at it (instead of the usual last minute job I always end up doing)!

Here’s the sketch …

And here’s my take!  I used the Staggered Hearts Stencil and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink to create a small inked area on the base card and then used Wonky Stitched Rectangles and cut a panel from vellum.  I cut the heart using the Shaker Window Heart die from black card I found in Karolyn’sscarp drawer!!  I have no idea what she embossed it with though – and forgot to ask!!!

Supplies:

Staggered Hearts Stencil

Shaker Window Heart Die

BG Marble Background Stamp

From The Heart Stamp Set

Black and White Striped Paper Pack

Stitched Circle Scallop Frames

Whist I was at it I couldn’t resist playing with the cute Meant To Bee stamp set!  I have a daughter who is OBSESSED with bees so I had her mind when I was making this one!!

Meant To Bee Stamp Set

Meant to Bee Die-Namics
